Ultimate caprese salad

Indulge in the ultimate Caprese salad with fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Taste perfection!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pint mixed cherry tomatoes, preferably heirloom, halved
  • 7 tablespoons (or more) extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • Flaky sea salt
  • 910g mixed medium and large tomatoes, preferably heirloom, cut into thin slices and/or wedges
  • 230g buffalo mozzarella or mozzarella, room temperature, torn into pieces
  • Coarsely ground black pepper
  • Small basil leaves and toasted country bread (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Mix cherry tomatoes with 1 tablespoon of oil in a small bowl; add salt to taste.
  2. Place tomato slices on a plate, slightly overlapping each other; season generously with salt. Place mozzarella on top of tomatoes; lightly sprinkle some salt on the mozzarella. Pour cherry tomatoes over the salad and drizzle with 6 tablespoons of oil; add pepper to taste. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes to let the flavors blend and the juices release from the tomatoes and mozzarella.
  3. Sprinkle basil and more salt and oil on top of the salad, if preferred. Serve with bread on the side.
