Spicy tuna salad sandwich

Deliciously spicy tuna salad nestled between soft bread for a flavorful bite. Perfect blend of heat and freshness in every mouthful.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of tuna
  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1 spoonful of sambal olek
  • 3-4 thinly slice green onions
  • 1/2 can roughly chopped water chestnuts
  • 4 cups thinly sliced cabbage. I like to use both green and purple for color
  • 1 carrot, shredded or julienned
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • sea salt to taste. I like Maldon sea salt.
  • sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds
  • A few sprigs of chopped cilantro

Instructions:

  1. Mix together tuna, water chestnuts, green onion, mayonnaise, and sambal olek. Season with sea salt to your liking.
  2. Mix together chopped cabbage, grated carrot, and optional cilantro.
  3. Prepare a dressing by combining sesame oil, olive oil, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Whisk until well blended. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture, sprinkle with sea salt, and garnish with toasted sesame seeds.
  4. Personally, I enjoy serving this on toasted bread, but feel free to use your preferred method. For extra flavor, heirloom tomatoes can be a great addition if available.
