Sandwich cake
Try a refreshing twist with our sandwich cake recipe. Layers of crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, savory deli meats, and gooey cheese come together for a delicious culinary masterpiece.
Ingredients:
- Three 8-ounce packages cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1 packet ranch seasoning
- 1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
- 1 large country white boule
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 4 thin slices Cheddar
- 110g thinly sliced deli ham
- 110g thinly sliced deli turkey
- 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
- 4 strips cooked bacon
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 1 cup potato chips
- 1/2 cup prepared chicken salad
- 1 bunch radishes, very thinly sliced on a mandoline
- 1 cucumber, very thinly sliced on a mandoline
Instructions:
- Using a stand mixer or an electric hand mixer, blend the cream cheese, ranch seasoning, and 1 cup of mayonnaise until smooth. Transfer a portion of the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Trim the edges of the boule with a serrated knife to create a uniform cylinder shape. Cut the cylinder into four 1-inch slices. Place a slice of bread at the center of a serving platter for the base layer, and tuck four parchment paper squares around it to keep the platter clean during assembly.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of mustard on the bread, followed by a layer of Cheddar, ham, and turkey. Add half of the lettuce over the turkey layer. Spread 1 tablespoon of mustard on one side of another bread slice, then place it mustard-side down on top of the lettuce.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise on top of the second bread slice. Layer with bacon, tomato, and the remaining lettuce. Spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise on one side of a third bread slice, then place it mayonnaise-side down on top of the lettuce. Top with a single layer of potato chips, followed by chicken salad and the final bread slice.
- Using a knife or offset spatula, coat the top and sides of the cake evenly with the cream cheese mixture. Pipe rows of star shapes along the top and bottom edges of the cake.
- Garnish the cake with rings of radish and cucumber slices along the top and bottom edges. Create rose-shaped decorations with the remaining radish and cucumber slices and place them on the top of the cake.
- Serve the cake chilled or at room temperature. It can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for 1 to 2 hours.
