Chinese sesame lettuce salad
Delight in the flavors of Chinese cuisine with this tantalizing sesame lettuce salad. A harmonious blend of savory, nutty, and fresh - a truly exquisite dish!
Ingredients:
- 5 bunches of youmaicai (or romaine hearts/baby gem)
- 1 tablespoon 1/2 tsp Chinese roasted sesame paste
- 1 tablespoon 1/2 tsp water
- 1/2 clove of garlic, finely minced
- 2 spring onions
- 1 teaspoon black and white sesame seeds (or either one)
Instructions:
- Separate the leaves individually and wash them thoroughly. After rinsing, shake off excess water, trim the ends and tops to create a neat middle section approximately 12cm in length. Arrange the irregular leafy tops on a serving plate in a single layer, then stack the attractive middle sections on top in a tidy manner, resembling a pile of logs in winter.
- Mix the jar of sesame paste to blend any separated oil and sediment thoroughly. Transfer the sesame paste to a small dish and set aside. In a separate bowl, combine water, soy sauce, vinegar, light brown sugar, and minced garlic. Slowly add the liquid mixture to the sesame paste, stirring continuously until well combined and achieving a smooth, velvety sauce.
- Drizzle the sesame sauce over the vegetables, then sprinkle with black and white sesame seeds and chopped spring onions.
