Charred caprese salad

Delight in the vibrant flavors of charred caprese salad with juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fresh basil, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Transform your salad game!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic 
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt 
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 
  • One 16-ounce log uncut fresh mozzarella 
  • 2 tablespoons store-bought balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for oiling grill grates 
  • 2 heirloom tomatoes, sliced 1/2-inch-thick
  • 12 fresh basil leaves 
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling 

Instructions:

  1. Heat up the grill until it's very hot.
  2. Mix the dried Italian herbs, granulated garlic, salt, and pepper on a plate. Coat the whole mozzarella log with about a tablespoon of balsamic glaze, then cover it with the dry seasonings. Put the cheese in the freezer to firm up, for around 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. Grease the grill grates, then place the mozzarella log on the grill to char quickly, for about 2 minutes. Rotate a quarter turn and repeat this process until all sides are charred but not melted, taking around 2 minutes for each side. Let it rest for a minute, then cut it into half-inch slices.
  4. Place the sliced tomatoes on a serving platter. Add the sliced charred mozzarella on top of the tomatoes, along with torn fresh basil, a drizzle of balsamic glaze, a sprinkle of sea salt, and a drizzle of olive oil.
