Berry salad with orange syrup

Indulge in the delightful combination of fresh berries topped with a zesty orange syrup in this vibrant and refreshing salad. Taste the brightness!

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 5 wide strips orange zest
  • 6 sprigs thyme
  • 910g strawberries, trimmed and sliced
  • 3/4 cup blueberries
  • 3/4 cup blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)

Instructions:

  1. Mix together the sugar, 3 tablespoons of water, orange peel, thyme, and a portion of the strawberries in a small saucepan. Heat until boiling, then lower the heat and simmer. Stir occasionally to dissolve the sugar, and cook until it thickens slightly, for about 6 to 8 minutes. Take it off the heat and allow it to cool down completely, around 1 hour.Combine the rest of the strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries in a large bowl. Pour in the orange liqueur and mix well. Filter the cooled syrup, keeping the orange peel aside, then drizzle the syrup over the berries; mix gently. Let it rest, stirring occasionally, until the fruit becomes slightly softer and releases its juice, approximately 30 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish or bowl, and add the reserved orange zest.
