Baked penne with spinach

Ingredients:

  • 1 (12-oz.) package orecchiette pasta
  • 1 head broccoli (8 oz.), cut into 1-in. pieces (3 cups)
  • 450g Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (from 1 [24-oz.] jar)
  • 4 oz. cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1/4 cup)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F. Boil the pasta in well-salted water following the instructions on the package in a big pot, and add broccoli in the last 2 minutes of cooking. Drain the water from the pot and put back the pasta and broccoli. Cook the sausage in a large skillet that can be used in the oven on medium-high heat, stir regularly and break the sausage into smaller pieces using a wooden spoon, until it is fully cooked and no longer pink, which should take about 10 minutes. Add the cooked sausage, marinara sauce, cream cheese, and salt to the pasta in the pot; mix everything together. Transfer the mixture back to the skillet; sprinkle cheese on top. Bake until it turns golden and bubbly, around 15 to 18 minutes.
